Welcome to Nevada
by Allison Stanfield

Welcome to Nevada, bitch
Here, weather skates across your face like icy fire
Warm breath lost amongst the evening snow trills fool me once
Sin City transfer finds virginity bitter
Weatherman looks at her like a slick new barometer
Licks his lips, she shivers
Fresh-meat, Ignorant, New, Naïve, Spring
Sliding behind the green screen,
Backstage access babe I’ll show you how we work the April showers
No flowers, just bare bark and frosted buds
Stripping the petals, spreading them ever so gently…
The touch is cold but the passion’s hot
Winter comes again, Loves me not.
Wolf lips on her pretty little head, Thanks Red, and sends her out
Milked cow, Experienced, Booty-call, Fall
When the sun comes again, her coat stays out
Sneering at the Tyros, the flip-floppers, the green horns
Tomorrow they’ll meet him, Don Juan, Casanova, Zeus,
He’ll pull them aside, run his frigid fingers across their exposed flesh,
And whisper coolly into their ears, the Secret:
Reno springs run cold.
